Each year on February 2nd, there is special festival called Groundhog Day ( 土 拨 鼠 日 )
forecasting event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. When it comes, people from around the world,
including 5,000 in the small town today, watch this tongue-twisting(发音饶舌的) small town for a
sign from one groundhog that supposedly predicts when that years' spring will arrive.
If it's a cloudy day outside when the groundhog pops from its cave, then spring will arrive early
that year. However, if it is sunny outside, the groundhog will supposedly be scared by its own

long teeth is watched by millions as he emerges from a cave in the town he is named after. Phil has

For some years , my mother worked for a charity as President and Secretary.Selling raffle
tickets(兑奖券) was her main means of bringing in the charity’s muchneeded funds. We girls would
accompany her, selling tickets with great success. My father made and donated beautiful wooden toys,
jewellery boxes and other lovely items as prizes.
Now my sister was always coming up with “good ideas”,most of which didn’t work out to
plan. But that didn’t deter her.She had many just waiting to be tested. When she was eight and I was
just five,we had a wonderful idea for a business adventure. We decided we would sell raffle tickets
for charity, and that charity was us!
So one afternoon,we told our mother we were going to play in the park with our cousins as we
did most days after school. But instead,we walked around the streets armed with a raffle book,a pen
and a large cloth bag to carry the money.
We’d accompanied our mother many times when she sold tickets,so people were familiar with
us when we appeared at their doors.Despite the blank looks they received when asking about the
prizes on offer, they were very generous.Although there were no actual prizes, our mother’s previous
track record enabled us to sell nearly the whole book of raffle tickets.
Like a little pair of lottery( 彩 票 ) winners , we walked home and proudly showed off our
takings. But our enjoyment of this sudden wealth was shortlived , and our plans for spending it
quickly failed. Our angry mother took us back to every ticket buyer, making us apologize and give
the money back.Thankfully, our sweet neighbors didn’t make a big deal of our “clever” misbehavior
and thus my mother’s fundraising career could continue safely. We were taught a good lesson by our
mother that day. Also I remember my sister’s entrepreneurial(企业家的) spirit dried up a bit after that.

China is one of the first countries to breed a medical culture. In comparison with Western
methods, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) adopts a vastly different approach. For thousands of
years, Chinese people have accumulated rich experience in fighting all sorts of diseases, therefore
forming a unique medical theory under the guidance of ancient Chinese philosophies.
The core behind TCM is that the human body's life is the consequence of the balance between
Yin and Yang. Yang functions to safeguard us against outer harm, and Yin is the inner base to store
and provide energy. When the balance between the two aspects is disturbed, people fall ill.
One of the traditional techniques of TCM, acupuncture (针刺疗法) means insertion of needles
into superficial structures of the body - usually at acupoints (穴位) - to restore the Yin-Yang balance.
It is often accompanied by moxibustion (艾灸疗法), which involves burning mugwort on or near the
skin at an acupoint.
The first known text that clearly talks about something like acupuncture and moxibustion as it is
practiced today is The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon. It is the earliest and most important written
work of TCM and is considered the fundamental and most representative medical text in China.
Acupuncture and moxibustion have aroused the interest of international medical science circles.
And TCM is gradually gaining worldwide recognition. The WHO issued a document in 2002 that
appealed to more than 180 countries to adopt TCM as an alternative in their medical policies. In
2010, acupuncture and moxibustion of traditional Chinese medicine were added to the
Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO. Presently,
TCM has been back in the news for its effectiveness in improving the cure rate of the COVID-19
since its outbreak in January 2020.

A.It greatly boosts the development of TCM.
B.It’s a foundation of world medical research.

34.Why does the writer write this text?
A.To introduce TCM to the world.

项。
Cycling or Running?
Aerobic (有氧) exercise is an effective tool to assist with fat loss. It can be fun and help build up
your body. Running and cycling, for example, are both good for you. 36 Read on and make an
informed decision.
Metabolic (代谢) Level
At the metabolic level, fast running beats fast cycling. There is also the fact that when you’re
riding downhill, you’re essentially at rest because you’re coasting. Not so with running.37 You’re also getting more of a total body workout with running than you get with cycling.
Difficulty Of Adoption
You could ride a bike for hours. With no pounding on your joints, you can go far and fast. Now
compare that to taking up running. The first few times you try running, you will breathe heavily,
wondering why on earth you’re putting yourself through such suffering. It takes enormous
determination for most people to become runners. 38
Racing
Foot races are popular the world over. There are 5Ks, 10Ks, half and full and ultra-marathons.
Any decent-sized city will have your choice of races. 39 It forces you to train and pushes you
to get better. Contrarily,it’s harder to find many races for cycling.
Convenience
In terms of convenience, running can’t match cycling. You will reach a specific destination way
faster on a bike than by running. It’s also easier for carrying things on a bike.
40 Both cycling and running have something to offer. It’s about analyzing their respective
advantages and deciding what’s right for you.
A.Truth be told, there is no winner.
B.Entering them can be very motivating.
C.You can do more caloric burn in less time with running.
D.So it’s not hard to find that cycling is just easier to get into.
E.It is definitely beneficial to take part in both of the two sports.
F.But maybe you are in two minds about which one to engage in.
G.You can handle any kind of bad condition when it comes to running.

There was a lively discussion held in my class last Friday. It was main about protecting the fine
Chinese culture. Some suggested raising people's aware of preserving our culture and making
people fall in love with them. For example, we could conduct creative activity like discovery tours
and culture shows to help people have better understanding of our culture. Others think some
courses should be offered in schools, which goal was to help students learn more about our customs,
ways of life and so on. And in my view, what was mattered was that everyone should feel proud in
our own culture. Also, we should attempt to passing our fine culture down from generation to
generation.
1.main→mainly
2.aware→awareness
3.them→it
4.activity→activities
5.have 后加 a
6.think→thought
7.which→whose
8.去掉 was
9.in→of
10.passing→pass
故将 them 改为 it。
根据下文 like discovery tours and culture shows 可知这里表示“不止一种活动”,
an understanding of 对......
故在 have 和 better 之间加 a。
feel proud of 译为“为……感到自豪”,该短语是固定短语。故将 in 改为 of。
attempt to do sth
