with the beginning, the world of birth. The exhibition follows a path of time and subject
with the visitor exiting through the brain.
The exhibition shows how Dali draws the viewer between two infifinities(⽆
限).“From the infifinity small to the infifinity large, contraction and expansion coming in
and out of focus: amazing Flemish accuracy and the showy Baroque of old painting
that he used in his museum-theatre in Figueras, explains the Pompidou Centre.

As the international demand for narrative(叙事的) film/TV content continues to
increase with popular streaming services like Netflix and others, the two questions
then come: will the coming generations receive most of their entertainment through
visual means rather than through the written word and will such an increase of
narrative film/TV reduce the importance of reading?
Growing examples of this trend include the diminishment(减少) of fiction in the
common core(核的) curriculum, the ever-rising culture of computer games, the wave
of streaming services of wide international reach, and movies filled with special efects
made for children and teenagers. Nor must we ignore the economic dangers that lie
ahead for the written word. The narrative film industry is a moneymaker that dwarfs(使
相形 绌) the publishing industry.
The other underlying question, of course. is"does it really matter if the written
word bows to the field of film/TV?" From my point of view any diminishment of fiction
delivered by words is a loss for mankind.
There is no greater human feature than the imagination. It lies at the very soul of
the human species. It is the brain's most powerful engine. It is the essential muscle of
life and like all muscles it must be exercised and strengthened.
Writing and reading are the principal tools that inspire, create and empower our
imagination Anything that diminishes that power is the enemy of mankind.
It should be known that I am not opposed to new media and technological
advances. Instead, have always felt it necessary to adapt to advancing technology. In
fact, a number of my novels are various stages of development for film TV, and live
stage productions. My hope is that the written wo will only stand to be
complemented )by its visual counterparts(对应物), not pushed to the edge extinction.
Of course, there are those who will present arguments for the superiority of the
moving image o the written word. Each has its place. My argument is for finding the
right balance between it and maving image.
28. In what way does narrative film/TV embarrass the written word?
A. Economic benefits B. International reach
C.Cultural influence D. Educational importance
29. Why does the author value the role of the written word?
A. It strengthens our muscles.
B. It helps sharpen imagination.
C. It distinguishes man from each other
D. It paves the way for narrative film/TV.
30. What is the author's' attitude towards technology?
A. Cautious B. Skeptical
C. Positive D.Critical
31. What's the author concerned about?
A. The fate of reading. B. The extinction of fiction.
C.The impact of the written word. D.The future of the moving image.

Scientists can figure out a movie's emotional tone from the gasps (喘⽓)of its
audience.
These gases could point the way to subtle(细微的) form of human communication,
new study suggests. "When you see a movie, you, can hear the music and see the
pictures. However, you don't realize there are chemical signals in the air. And they,
too, could be affecting you, says Williams, who led the study. As an atmospheric
chemist, he studies the chemical makeup of the air around us.
Williams started out measuring the air in a soccer stadium. He noticed that levels
of carbon dioxide and other gases changed wildly whenever the crowd cheered. That
got him wondering Could the gases be influenced by emotions?
To find out, he went to the movies.
Williams and his coworkers measured air samples collected ever six weeks in
two movie theaters. Overall, 9, 500 movie goers watched 16 films. They included a
mix of comedy, romance, action and horror films. Among them were The Hunter
Games, Catching Fire, Carrie, and Walking with Dinosaurs. The researchers gave
scenes from the movies such labels as "suspense"" laughter", and "crying". Then they
looked for hundreds of chemicals in the air that showed up as people were watching
particular movie scenes.
And certain scenes had obvious chemical "fingerprints", Scenes that had people
laughing or on the edge of their seats were especially unique. During screenings of
The Hunger Games, levels of carbon dioxide and isoprene(异戊⼆烯) got to the
highest at two suspenseful moments. Because isoprene is related to muscle
movement, the researchers think tense movie moments likely led to its peak. Williams
and his colleagues think the increase in carbon dioxide was due to the viewers'
increased pulse and breathing rates.
Scientists need more data to make stronger links between human emotions and
what's in their breath. But Williams can see potential practical uses. Companies, for
instance, could quickly measure the air during tests to see how people feel about new
products. He pictures future studies recording other body variables as well. These
might include heart rate and body temperature, for instance. "It's something to find
out.”
32. What chemicals in the air are important to Williams's recent research?
A. Those in the natural air.
B. Those from the theaters.
C. Those from audience's breath.
D. Those from people's gasps.
33. What was Willams's purpose of the research?
A.To know more about the makeup of the air.
B. To see whether people's emotion affects the air they breathe out.
C. To study how greatly the movies influence people's emotion.
D. To find out how the air changes in a crowded stadium.
34. What do we know about the experiment?
A. Each participant watched about 16 films
B. The movies were a mixture of comedy and romance.
C. The films were labeled with three main features.
D. The samples were taken in two theaters over six weeks.
35. What can we infer From the last paragraph?
A. Willams thinks more measures should be taken for practical uses.
B. Human emotions are strongly related to the chemicals humans breathe out.
C. People’s temperature will be measured when they're watching movies.
D. Companies will spend much money testing their new product.

If you stayed up or had a bad night of sleep last night, you know it's difficult to
stay awake in class today. Your teacher’s voice might begin to sound like lullaby(催眠
曲). 36 To keep yourself awake, some tips are worth trying in class.
Sit in the front of the room. Why? 37 Besides, it’ll be easier to pay attention and
participate when you’re in the front. You’ll also be near the people who are more likely
to participate, and the sound of their voice might keep you awake.
38 Ask and answer questions and pay attention to the lecture. This will help if
you’re tired or discouraged by the content of the lecture, because you can ask your
teacher questions to get to the bottom of the problems. Talking will also keep you
engaged and alert. It might be helpful to make a goal for yourself to answer or ask at
least 3 questions per class. 39 For example, you might say “I didn’t understand the
last part of the proof. Could you explain it again in more detail?”
Listen actively to the lesson. Active listening is a great way to force yourself to
stay awake because it requires engagement of your mind as well as your body. 40 To
effectively listen to your teacher, you should try to maintain eye contact, face the
speaker, pay close attention to what the speaker is saying and ask questions during a
pause in the lecture.
A. Participate in class activities.
B. Develop interest in the subject.
C. If so, classrooms can be boring because you’re tired.
D. Keep silent all the time and try to catch as much information as possible.
E. To avoid annoying your teacher you should try to keep your questions on topic.
F. You'll be more motivated to stay awake if you know that the teacher can see you
easily.
G. Practicing active listening can help you keep your eyes open for the length of the
lesson.
