Unit3 Task Guiding ideology 本教学目标学生在课堂内进行开放式的任务型活动,设计的主要目的是引导学生在完成任 务的过程中使用英语,并以任务的形式,培养学生听,说,读,写的综合技能。让学生在教学 活动中用英语参与和完成各种真实而有意义的与生活,学习,工作有关的活动。 Teaching aims 1.Learn to get key information while listening. 2.Learn to ask technical questions. 3.Write a report on a visit. Teaching important and difficult points 1.Find out key words and expressions while listening to a material. 2.Write a report on a visit smoothly. Teaching procedures Step 1 Revision (2minutes) Review the grammar and usage---Inversion Neither am I impressed by the paintings nor do I like them. Only on such a trip can you learn as much about European artists. Out rushed the children. 设计说明:复习使学生巩固上节课学习的语法,倒装结构。学生可以把这种特殊句式运用 到下面的对话和写作中。 Step 2 Lead-in (3minutes) Show some groups of pictures of an exhibition and explain the task to the students. 设计说明:通过图片展示明确本课的学习目的。 Step3 Listening(5minutes) Explain the task to the students and help them learn about the key information of the listening material. Have students listen to instructions to repot on a visit, find out the information they will need to include in the report. 设计说明:在老师引导下了解听力的重点内容,通过回答问题理解参观报告的关键词,为 后面实际运用打基础。 Step4 Reading (10minutes) Read the brochure about an exhibition and underline useful information. Pay attention to some useful expressions. 设计说明:阅读关于展览的宣传指南,了解艺术家及其作品。 Step 5 Speaking (10minutes) Suppose you are at an art galley and see Zhang Linghong’s masterpiece. You would like to know more about it and decide to ask the artist. Take turns to be the student and the artist. 设计说明:本环节是为了提高学生说的技巧。通过采访一位艺术家,学生将学会如何问一 些专业的问题。设计小组竞赛,提高学生的参与意识,以竞争促进步。 Step6 Writing (10minutes) Write a report on a visit. 设计说明:对学生写作的指导,帮助学生正确的组织一篇参观报告,训练学生的写作水平。 Step7 Summary and homework (5minutes) 1.Make some sentences with the two sentence part tens. 2.Write a report. Teaching aims: After learning this period, the students will be able to 1. focus on listening to instructions to report on a visit; 2. summarize the main points included in a report on a visit; 3. ask technical questions and role-play; 4. write a report on a visit. Teaching procedures: Step 1 Lead-in Arouse the students’ interest in this topic by asking about their past experience of visiting a place especially an art gallery. Present some pictures about an art gallery, a museum or an exhibition and ask the students questions like: Have you ever visited an art gallery, a museum or an exhibition? After that, ask the students to work in groups to discuss: If you are to report on a visit to an art gallery, a museum or an exhibition, what information do yon need to include? Collect their answers on the blackboard and compare their notes with the guidelines on P42. Step 2 Listening Listen for Part A and Part B for twice and then check the answers one by one. Step 3 Reading Read Part C and fill in the blanks on the task paper and then check the answers. Step 4 Asking technical questions and Role-play Have the students read the guidelines on P44 to make sure that they understand these questions and know what to do, especially Questions 4& 7. “How did you get this effect?” & “How did you decide what to call it?” Get the students to work in pairs for this role-play activity. One student acts as the artist and the other as the student who interviews the artist. When conducting the interview, students may refer to the questions and the answers listed in the book. Also they can list as many questions they want to ask the artist as possible. Step 5 Writing a report on a visit 1. Groups the students to discuss the structure of a report to an exhibition with information gathered in Steps 1& 2. And make sure they know what each point means and what should be included in a report. 2. Have the students work in groups to write an outline of the report. Each group member is responsible for a particular section. 3. Get one or two students to present their report in the class. Step 6 Review and homework Review what we have learned today and assign the homework. Clear structure and well-organized information to make a complete report 2. Proper transition to make a coherent report Analysis of teaching material: An excerpt from Lesson 18 New Concept English Book 3: Electric currents in modern art displays a possible way to describe exhibits in an art exhibition and a short passage from skills building 1 in Unit 3 Module 8 shows some information to introduce an exhibitor. These two reading materials are chosen in the hope that students can get some inspiration for their own writing. Analysis of students: Students have already learnt an e-mail about an art trip and practiced listening about instructions to report on a visit, in which they have got some idea about what a report is like. In this learning period students will have an opportunity to put what they have learnt into practice and write their own report. Teaching objectives: By the end of the class, the students will be able to: 1. acquaint themselves with the organization of information in a report; 2. write a report on a visit through a group activity; 3. appreciate the beauty of art around them. Teaching procedures: Ⅰ. Warm-up Get the students to have a free talk about their experiences of visiting an art exhibition. Ask the students to brainstorm the basic components of an art exhibition. Ⅱ. A guide to report writing Get the students to brainstorm the basic aspects in a report on a visit to an art exhibition  Exhibitor Ask the students to think how we introduce the exhibitor and what information is usually included.  Exhibits 1. Ask the students to think in what way or order we describe the exhibits and whether we introduce all the objects. 2. Get the students to think about the words, especially the adjectives, used in description.  Gallery Get the students to think what role the introduction of gallery plays.  Opening & closing paragraph Ask the students to think about what is usually included in these two parts.  Critical thinking Get the students to talk about the importance of their impression and comments on the exhibition. Ⅲ. Writing 1. Group discussion Get the students to work in groups, focus on one part and discuss what they are going to write in this part. 2. Individual writing Ask the students to write down what they have discussed. 3. Group writing Get the students to piece their writing together and make coherent transitions. 4. Sharing & modification Invite the students to share their group writing and modify their writing together. Ⅳ.
