Students: 42 students of Senior 1, Jincai Senior High School, intermediate level.
Text analysis:
As a reading lesson, students are supposed to to practice skills such as skimming and scanning. However, considering the genre of the reading
material (in this case an excerpt of a play), much more focus should be placed upon the “playfulness” of the play, i.e. the characters, the
dialogues, the stage directions and the “rehearsing” element. Having said that, the basics for reading and comprehension will not be overlooked.
Through talking with each other and answering questions from the text and the teachers, students are required to have a gist of the material and
to be able to present the main idea of the text, i.e. the usefulness of spiders.
