Teacher’s name School: GP Grade : Senior One S What’s the aim of the lesson? By the end of the lesson, students will have learned some new words and expressions from the text. By the end of the lesson, students will have practiced speaking for accuracy and fluency, using the target language. By the end of the lesson, students will develop the ability to deal with their own problems through giving their peers helpful advice. Stage Interaction Time Procedure ICQs and CCQs Lead-in: To generate interest in the lesson context and create a need for the target language to be used. T-Ss S-S (Group work) 2 mins 5 mins  T: Problems cannot be avoided in our daily life. Some are small, which can be easily solved by ourselves while others can be big or even serious, which should rely on other people to help. If you have problems that cannot be solved on your own, who do you often ask for help?And Elicit the word ‘counsellor’ (get students to focus on the topic easily and quickly. )  Brainstorming: What kind of problems do you usually have in your life?  Show some pictures on PPT. T groups Ss in three or four and ask them to describe the problems and give some advice. Ss discuss in groups, while T monitors.  Students from each group tell the whole class the many different ways that can be used to deal with these situations. CCQs: e.g. Do you feel better or feel worse after talking to a counsellor? Does a counsellor give you advice or deal with the problem for you himself ? Instruction: Look at the pictures and have a group discussion. 3-4 students form a group and describe the problems and give some advice.Finish the group discussion T-Ss-T 5 mins in five minutes. ICQ: How many students are there in a group? What do you need to do? Pre-reading: T-Ss-T 8 mins T provides some new words an expressions from the text. And concept-checking some new lexis related to the text.(checking pronunciation and meaning. The words can also serve as the key words for retelling the story) Letter 1 1. counsellor 2. anonymously He wrote an anonymous letter to the school counsellor and it is published anonymously in the school newspaper. 3. accidentally Don’t blame him too much. He dropped the vase accidentally. 4. narrowly miss didn’t hit 5. temporarily: only for a short time The manager is temporarily busy. He will be able to see you in a few minutes. CCQ: Do we know the name of the writer? (anonymously) Did he do it by accident or on purpose? (NO) While--reading S-S (Group work) T-Ss-T 3 mins 5 mins Six students will form a group.Each group will get a story and one student tells the story in the group and the other students fill in the table. And give some advice. Ask students to form 6-8 new groups according to the color of the letter. And share the story in the new group. Students take notes and fill in the table. And give some advice. Report the answers. Have one member of each group report the conclusions and advice of the group to the rest of the class. Use the expressions below to help the 5 mins students. We therefore advise the writer to… Post-reading Ss 2mins Do the questionnaire Ask the students exchange their answers with his /her partner and compare notes. S-S (Pair work) 3 mins The teacher choose two cases from the questionnaire as a discussion topic, and then the students give their own advice. S-S (Pair work) 2 mins The students tell each other his own problems and give advice to each other.
