Lead in Background Show some pictures of small creatures to see whether the students can identify them. Tell the name of the small creatures shown in the pictures. To attract students’ attention and arouse students’ interest in the text to be read Raise a question about whether a spider is an insect and help the students to classify these small creatures correctly. Figure out the features of an insect and classify other small creatures according to their features. To enlarge students’ ken of knowledge and help them understand the sentence in the text “ A spider is not an insect.” II. Pre-reading preparation Brainstorm Guide the students to use some adjectives to express their impressions of spiders. Brainstorm the adjectives to describe their feelings towards spiders while watching relevant pictures.
