Unit 5 Problems and advice (A letter from the school counsellor) Teaching aims: 1. Help the students to have a good understanding of the text and learn some useful expressions. 2. Help the students to understand they need different fine qualities in coping with tough situations. 3. Help the students to understand it is quite natural for people to sometimes face problems and need advice. Teaching procedure: Stages Teacher’s Activities Students’ Activities Purposes Pre-learning Ask students about the most impressive words in the 3 letters in the main reading Share the impression To review what has been learned in the main reading While-learning Ask students to read the whole passage and match the paragraphs with different parts Make the match To have a general idea of the letter and at the same time review the format of a letter Divide the letter into 3 parts of beginning-body-conclusion and ask students to locate specific information in each part Locate the information as required To get students to locate specific details Ask students to find a sentence that best summarizes the letter Find the sentence To help students understand the text from a macro perspective Ask students to read another letter on the screen and finish a letter of reply with words and phrases from the text Read and reply to the letter To help students to enhance the learning of vocabulary and expressions in the text Ask students to think about why the mistakes were made Think about the reasons for the mistake To guide students to think about the qualities needed in coping with difficult situations Post-learning Conduct a questionnaire on the problems students face in a boarding school Brainstorm the problems in life and study 1. To relate what has been learnt to students’ daily life 2. To approach the text(and beyond) from an emotional perspective- to foster the awareness of citizenship among students Focus on the questions: a. Why did the students make such mistakes? b. What qualities do we need when coping with tough situations? c. What qualities do we need to be a qualified citizen? Share problems and offer solutions assignment Suppose you are a counselor and write a letter on one of the problems we discussed in the class Feedback(教学反馈) 对文本理解到位,结构严谨清晰,问题设计层层深入。利用启发式的提问方式,发挥学生的 想象力。紧扣寄宿制学校的学生特点来设计教学环节。 教师注重授课的有效性,生成较精彩。学生课内表现出了大声、大胆、大气的特质。 反思和不足:学生的回答可以更开放,这样就可以更激活而生的思维。 查看更多
