Listening to get special information. 2. Scanning to get the general idea. 3. Careful reading to get detailed information. 4. Discussion to make all the students take part in the class activity. Teaching Aids: Multimedia,a tape-recorder, a tape Teaching Procedure: Step I Greeting and Revision (3 min) 1. Greet the whole class as usual. 2. Check the students’ homework. Ask a student to read the article about flu. Correct mistakes if any. Step II Lead-in (4 min) Ask the following questions to arouse the students’ related information. (show Pictures 2、3、4、5、6、7 and 8) 1. Have you ever seen a doctor? Can you say something about your experience of receiving medical treatments? Are you afraid of injection? 2. Do you know any other traditional Chinese treatments? 2 Step III Listening for special information (8 min) Decide T or F: (show Pictures 9 and 10) 1. Chinese acupuncture has a very long history. (T) 2. The majority of acupuncture still use gold and silver needles. (F) 3. Most of the nine different kinds of needles are not in use now in medical treatment. (T) 4. Acupuncture points are the ones on the body where the needles are put into the skin so that a disease can be cured or a health problem solved. (T) 5. There are 365 points on a patient’s body, where acupuncture can be practiced. (F) Step IV Scanning (8 min) Read the article about Chinese acupuncture quickly and match the main ideas with each paragraph: (show Picture 11) Para 1 the work of an acupuncturist and the medical problems that can be treated Para 2-3 early history of Chinese acupuncture Para 4-5 How acupuncture reduces and relieves pains is unclear. Para 6 development of Chinese acupuncture Step V Careful reading (8 min) Read the passage again carefully and fill in the form. You can work in pairs.
