Unit one Body Language—Reading Lesson Plan: session one Teaching Aims: Through this lesson, students are expected to Knowledge objectives 1. get the general idea of the passage. 2. know some basic body languages and their applications. 3. grasp the meaning of some key words and expressions. . Ability objectives 1. develop reading skills . 2. improve students’ speaking ability by group discussion. Emotional objectives 1. encourage students to communicate by various means, especially body language. 2. make students more confident when communicating. Teaching focus: The whole lesson will focus on the comprehension of the whole text and the function of body language. Teaching difficulties: to encourage students to use body language to aid them when communicating in English. Teaching Aids: Multi-media Teaching Procedures: Stages Teacher’s activities Students’ activities Purposes Warm up (photo illustration) Teacher elicits the topic by showing students some photos of people from different culture expressing their feelings using body language. Sts give their opinions on how they explain these feelings and what makes them draw such conclusions. To arouse Sts interest and elicit the topic. To encourage Sts feel the power of body language. Pre-reading (students experience) Teacher invites Sts to come to the front and pose for the others. Other students should guess what the student means or feels. To let students try to use body language and feel its power. While-reading (question, skimming, listening, summarizing) 1) Teacher asks Sts to read the whole text for the first time and get a general idea of the story. 2) Teacher asks Sts to skim the text and asks what, when, where, why and how questions. 3) Teacher asks Sts to listen to the recording of the whole text and finish exercisesD. 4) Teacher asks students to define Debbie’s and Simon’s body language and then analyze the different effects of their body language. 1) Sts read the whole text and understand the basic plot of the story. 2) Sts skim the text find out the details of these questions. 3) Sts close their books and listen to the recording, then they open their books and finish comprehension exercise D 4) Sts summarize two different kinds of body language. 1) To let students get the plot of the story and think about the difference of Debbie and Simon. 2) To get Sts to have a better understanding of the whole text and think about the difference between using body language and not using body language. 3) To have Sts focus on detailed information and find out some key sentences that describe the function of body language. 4) To echo and summarize the topic of the whole text. Post-reading (Discussion) Teacher invites Sts to share in groups the way to improve their body language. Sts have group discussion on what to improve and how to improve their body language. To encourage Sts to apply their body language to their daily communication. Assignment 1. Ask students to find out more body language of different countries through Internet and give the whole class a short report tomorrow. 2. Review the key words and expressions in the text. reflection Students show great interests in the topic but find it hard to express their feelings even after the teacher gives some advice on how to use body language, our topic, to serve as their assistant. So, some basic expressions of facial expressions and gesture may help a lot and should be taught beforehand. 查看更多
