Step 3知识·得 whether的用法
(1)whether意为“是否”, 可用来引导宾语从句, 可与
or not连用, 此时从句可以用一般将来时。
(2)whether意为“不管, 无论”时, 用来引导状语从句,
此时从句常用一般现在时代替一般将来时。
【辨析】whether与if
(1)相同点: 二者都表示“是否”, 引导宾语从句;
(2)不同点: ①whether可以和or not连用, 而if则不能;
②引导宾语从句, 并且把从句放在句首表示强调时只用
whether不用if;
③从句作介词宾语时只用whether不用if;
④在动词不定式前面或介词之后要用whether而不用if;
⑤在某些动词(如discuss)后通常只用whether;
⑥引导否定概念的宾语从句时, 只能用if;
⑦引导条件状语从句, 意为“如果”时, 只能用if。
